Don Bosco English Medium School situated at Monigram under Sagardighi PS and Block in the civil district of Murshidabad in West Bengal, established in 2005 (31st March) is administered by the Registered Society of The Roman Catholic Diocese of Krishnagar.

The School has been provisionally affiliated to this Council for a period of five years to prepare and enter candidates for the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (Year 10) Examination. The school will seek for Permanent Affiliation in course of time.

Although the school is meant for the Christian students, provision is made for the admission of non- Christian students. Lessons on moral principles and conduct will be given to students, irrespective of caste or creed.

The School came into existence in 2005, is a Christian minority institution, coming within the purview of "Article 30, clause (1) of the Constitution of India, Imparting Education" and pervasive to all.

History
Don Bosco English Medium School is situated at Monigram under Sagardighi police station and Block in the civil district of Murshidabad in West Bengal, was established in 31st March 2005. It is administered by the Registered Society of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Krishnagar. The First Principal of the school was Rev Fr Kishore Lakra (April 2005 to June 2005). Rev Fr Arul Rozario was the second Principal of the school in the year June 2005 to July 2017. Rev Fr Yacub Ekka is the third Principal of the school from July 2017 to till date.

The School has been provisionally affiliated to the Council for a period of five years in the year 2015 to prepare and enter candidates for the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (Year 10) Examination.  The school will seek Permanent Affiliation in course of time. The first batch of class 10 students passed from the school in 2014-2015 with 96%. Until now 5 batches of class 10 students have passed the ICSE examination.

The Foundation of the new school building was laid by Rev Bishop Joseph Gomes SDB DD, the Bishop of Krishnagar in the year 2009. It was completed in the year 2019 in its fullest form.

The school shifted from the old building to the new building in the year 2016. The school is adorned with the latest equipment of teaching and highly educated teaching staff from all parts of India with a variety of cultural backgrounds.

John Bosco was born on 16th August 1815, in a peasant Family at Becchi, near the city of Turin, Italy. He was only two years old when his father, Francis Bosco passed away. At the age of nine, he had a dream. He saw himself in a vast field, surrounded by youngsters, laughing, singing and playing. Before long the boys began to shout and a curse, a fight broke out among them. John tried to restore order by swinging his fists around and shouting at the trouble makers. A mysterious person stopped him saying, “Not with blows, but with gentleness and kindness you shall win them over.”

John recognized in this dream of his future mission. This experience deepened his desire to become a priest and dedicate his life for the welfare of young people.

John’s path, however, was full of hurdles. His mother Margaret though poor, was prepared to make any sacrifice to educate him. But his elder step-brother strongly opposed his going to school. He had to do his share of work on the family farm and study during his spare time. To earn the little extra money needed for his books, he offered himself to work as a labour, shepherd, tailor, shoe-maker, and cook-skills which he later taught his orphans.

As a teenager, John used to gather boys of his age and entertain them with music, Jugglery, and acrobatics. His performance, however always ended with a good story and a brief exhortation to live a good and honest life. In due course, John entered the seminary and was ordained as a priest on 5th June 1841. From then on He was affectionately known as Don Bosco (Father Bosco).
