History
Holy Child School, Jalpaiguri was established in February 1973 by the Sisters of Charity, a catholic congregation originally formed in Italy by St. Bartolomea Capitanio and St. Vincenza Gerosa. It is a Girls’ School where the boys
are accommodated according to the need and decision of the Governing body. At the time of its establishment, the city was in dire need of quality English education. The school has lived up to the expectations of all strata of Jalpaiguri
citizens.
Holy Child Convent’ Jalpaiguri was opened in 1973 by the Society of the Sisters of Charity of Saints Bartolomea Capitanio and Vincenza Gerosa also known as Sisters of ‘Maria Bambina’ (Holy Child Mary). Hence the
Institution bears this name.
The Sisters of Charity came from Italy to India in 1860 and since then they are working in many parts of the country, in Orphanages, Hospitals, Homes for the Aged, Schools, Colleges and other charitable institutions. The institutions
are owned by the Society, a body registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860.
The special meaning attached to this Institution Holy Child is that it is especially dedicated to the Holy Infant Mary, the Virgin Mother of Jesus Christ. Hence the school day falls on 8 September that is the Birthday of the Holy Child
Mary.
